Castles of the Spey

For something really special, why not go the whole way and stay at one of Scotland’s finest historic castles.  Drummuir Castle and Gordon Castle cater mainly for larger groups but individuals may also be catered for depending on availability.

Drummuir Castle

Drummuir Castle.Drummuir Castle was built in 1847 by Thomas Mackenzie for Admiral Archibald Duff, whose distinguished career included service with Lord Nelson.  The Castle is a splendid example of the Scottish Victorian architectural style.  The romantic roofline with its battlements, turrets and chimneystacks is dominated by the 60 feet high central lantern tower, notable for its Gothic tracery.

The Castle lies in a wooded glen between Dufftown and Keith in the heart of Speyside, Scotland's whisky country. Drummuir Castle is drinks giant Diageo's Home of Scotch Whisky on Speyside and is used for 5star corporate entertaining.  This amazing unique facility offers unparalleled comfort for both individuals and groups searching for that something special.

A wide range of individual or group activities can also be arranged, enjoy the splendour of Speyside or the grounds of Drummuir castle, courtesy of Diageo, Sportscotland and of course myself.  So why not take a break from the fishing with anything from Clay Pigeon Shooting to Blind Fold off road Driving.  Small bore rifle shooting to Archery, or perhaps a round of golf on some of Morays many famous courses.

Gordon Castle
Gordon Castle.Gordon Castle is a palace build for the Dukes of Gordon on the banks of the River Spey near Fochabers in Moray. It was designed and built by Mr John Baxter for the 4th Duke of Gordon in 1769 and replaced an earlier castle built by George Gordon, the 2nd earl of Huntly in the 1470s. It was described in the 18th century as “The most magnificent edifice north of the Forth”.

Although partly demolished in the 1950s, it has been recently restored and with its superb fishing’s attached offers guests a unique opportunity to fish the River Spey in surroundings once only graced by kings.

Fishing here has been mentioned in nearly every book ever written about the River Spey; it has five full time Ghillies and controls a stretch of the River unparalleled to that found anywhere. It has 8 beats; each fished with between 3 and 6 rods and is one of very few beats where catches can sometimes reach three figures.
