This is one week in the year, 5th - 12th July places are limited and we try to accommodate our clients on a first come first serve basis. There are some rods available on a "non-hosted" basis the following week.

Nowhere in the world offers you a better chance of catching a "Big 30 pound + Salmon" than in Norway. However, as with salmon fishing here in the UK, there are certain times and places that will increase your chances.

Ian Gordon and his team have fished and hosted weeks fishing in both the Gaula and Orkla rivers as well as personally fishing the Namsen and most famous Alta river.

Like all Norwegian rivers, the season is short, but as will all other rivers, the "peak" season for catching a "Big Fish" is even shorter.

Ian's hosted weeks are hand picked on the best places at the best times.

Follow the links to hosted fishing where Ian and his team will help you with all aspects of your fishing during a week of fishing and fun.

Gaula River Norway

New Hosted Trip 2020

13th - 20th June - We will host a really interesting split trip, fishing both the Nedre Kasen beat and the Fishmaster beat on the River Gaula.

We will fish 3.5 days on one [Saturday 4pm until Tuesday 12pm] on one before swapping with the group on the other beat.

Fishing begins at 4pm on Saturday 13th finishing at 10am on Saturday 20th June.

We will provide transport from the airport for this trip so saving the price of expensive car hire. The trip will be self-catering but I will be preparing meals at Nedre Kasen. At the other beat, Fishmaster, it will be self-catering so you will have your own meals to prepare. However, there are restaurants around 2km away in the town of Storen. There are also very good supermarkets and bakery's

This trip offers a big variation in pools both above and below the Gaulfoss. This is important at this time as the Gaulfoss is a natural temperature barrier for salmon running the Gaula. In June 2019, fish normally caught in the lower pools below the Foss, passed through the waterfall and into the upper river. This is why we are splitting the week. One beat is below, whilst the majority of pools in the other, are above the Gaulfoss. This makes for a unique trip.

It will be hosted by two members of my team, one will stay at Kasen whilst the other will look after guests upstream. Rods will be picked up and dropped at the airport and taken to the house. You will also be dropped at their fishing pools and have either one of us showing you the pools. Pools on the upper beat are small and typically Norwegian in that they are a little crowded, whilst Kasen is a 6-rod beat I fish with only 4.

Why June and why the split week?

June on the Gaula is all about big fresh salmon. If it's your goal to catch one of those fish, don't mind -

  • Self-catering for half the week

  • Fishing hard with sinking lines in high water.

  • Taking a chance on my cooking!

  • Having a cast with a spinning rod [Nedre Kasen] in a couple of difficult/deep, but very fishy places.

  • The chance of being hauled downstream by a huge fish.

  • Having a little help with your casting and fishing techniques.

Then this will be the trip for you!

Please click on the word files below for much more detailed information regarding the fishmaster beat and what to pack.

We have 4 places available on each of those trips. It would very much lend itself to a group of friends.

Please contact me HERE for pricing and further details.

Hosted Salmon Fishing with Ian Gordon

For our hosted trips we find the Aunan beat of the Orkla river more suitable as the beat and lodge is more suited to our size of group which include 4 full time guides.  Plus the return rate of previous guests is much higher, something which speaks volumes about this wonderful lodge. Click here to visit Aunan Lodge

We are actively talking with other beats on the Gaula, the idea of which is to find a lodge suitable for our size of group and offering a package of fishing both Gaula and Orkla. We have some good ideas in the pipeline so - Watch this space.

Norwegian Fly Fishers Club

NFC week 31 Exclusive fishing on the River Gaula 26th - July 2nd August 2020

We are pleased to arrange something I’ve had my eye on for some time, securing a week for 18 guests, 14 in the main lodge and 4 in the house with Tom, Chris and I.

Normally fished with 22 rods, this is without a doubt the finest lodge and most varied salmon fishing on the whole of the river.

One of the pools in low water this summer

Because we fish the 25 pools with only 18 rods, it means we have pools resting during each rotation, something we feel provides our guests with a much better chance of hooking and catching fish and is worth paying that extra for.

The fishing comprises 4 zones, one above the Lodge, the next, directly below the Lodge (the main part) and another two lower down the river. One of the real plus points to this fishery is the fact the pools stretch along a length of 25 kilometers, this provides so much variation in the fishings.

The Lodge itself is without a doubt the best in the valley if not the whole of Norway http://wordpress.nfc-online.com/accommodations/rogstadmoen-lodge/ . Everyone will eat breakfast and dinner at the Lodge at a set time and, lunch will be mainly a packed lunch by the river as most of the time you will be some distance from the accommodation. Unlike any other week at this place,  where those fishing are all individual, fishing during our week, will be carried out in a friendly, relaxed but well organised manner. This system is totally unique to us here. We will also have four guides working with us this week. Each will have a car to ferry our guests to and from pools at change-over

You will be picked up and dropped off at Trondheim airport on the 28th July and 4th August. Flights are not included in the price.

Orkla River Norway

River Orkla Aunan Lodge

Aunan lodge is owned by Vegard Heggam, and ex Liverpool football player and passionate fly fisherman. 5 star service in a wonderful lodge with space for 12 rods with 17 of the nicest fly fishing pools you're ever likely to find.. The combined river stretch is about 5.5km, providing a length and variation that is rarely seen on Norwegian salmon rivers.

The Lodge is situated in a stunningly beautiful part of the Orkla Valley and visiting rods will instantly feel the "Love" and "Passion" the owner has for both his river and Aunan. This passion is instilled in his wonderful staff, who for me, are the best "team" i've encountered running a fishery. Knowledgable, friendly, funny and extremely passionate about the River, Beat, conservation and the Environment.  Totally awesome! This is one of the things I truly love about this place and makes our stay a simply wonderful experience.

The accommodation comprises of four well equipped lodges of varying sizes. The biggest, Annfield, had 4 bedrooms, each serviced with separate toilet and shower room. The second also has four bedrooms but with only 2 shower/bathrooms. The remaining two are 2 bedroom, one toilet/shower room. All have tea/coffee facilities in a well equipped kitchen The two larger units have large seating area for guests to relax and socialise and also have a very nice, large verandah for those who enjoy a dram and cigar. There's a sauna, drying room and separate shower facility.

The dining room, bar and seating area in the main building is equally well appointed and full of charm. Our clients are served by one of the best chef's I've been lucky enough to be around and also first class waitresses. If on a diet or planning losing weight then this is not the place for you. Undoubtedly you will come away from this fishing holiday with wonderful memories, not just of the salmon fishing, but of every part.

Tom Brown and I host a nice week here on the 2nd week in July each year helping you with both your casting and salmon fishing techniques. Like all of our hosted fishing, this salmon fishing venue has been chosen to provide our clients with the best chances of fulfilling their personal requirements. In the Case of fishing rivers such as those in Norway, the key requirement is Big Salmon. But Aunan has so much more to offer, great accommodation, food and wonderful world class Salmon Pools  in a very private and well run fishery.

Nedre Kasen - Is a beat of around 800 meters long consisting of 2 main pools, one of which is fished from both banks during the full week, the other fished from both banks during half of the fishing week.

The system works really well and the positioning of the beat, within the river, makes for an excellent choice for fishing, particularly during the month of June when the river remains high and cold.

The reason for this is, given those conditions 150 Cubic Meters [m3] and below 7oC, fish tend to stay below the Gaulfoss, a natural temperature barrier around 10k further upstream. This means that the early salmon, many of which are the really big fish, tend to be caught in pools below the foss.

Kasen is a 6-rod [Norwegian] beat but we will fish it only with 4. To be honest there is plenty of room for 5 but we tend to keep it to 4 as this makes for a much better chance for each client to catch a fish or two. We pay for six, but keep it to 4.

Why June

June on the Gaula is all about big fresh salmon. If it's your goal to catch one of those fish, don't mind -

  • Self-catering for half the week

  • Fishing hard with sinking lines in high water.

  • Taking a chance on my cooking!

  • The chance of being hauled downstream by a huge fish.

  • Having a little help with your casting and fishing techniques.

Then this will be the trip for you!

The beat has a nice house around 150 meters from the beat, making the whole thing very easy and no need for an expensive hire car as we will pick you up and drop you at the airport. This said, in Norway, nothing is cheap and those looking to do self-catering should budget around £75 per day for food.

The beat owner can arrange a hot meal to be served in the fishing hut by the river should the weather be favorable. Remember at this time in this part of Norway you have 24 hours daylight.

The house sleeps 6 people but has only one bathroom. However, it's very comfortable and warm. This trip would be ideal for a group of four friends who want to experience fishing the river at a time where, although not 100s, you have a serious chance of a really big fish.

Fishing can be with both fly and spinning, so it will suit people who enjoy a crack with a spinner too.

We have 4 places available on each of those trips. It would very much lend itself to a group of friends.

The weeks will be hosted either by myself or one of my team. Like most Norwegian beats, there is no guide, however, my assistant Chris is very aquaint with the beat and will be more than helpful.
